Abstract

The present study was conducted to analyse the guidance of carrier choice among child studying in class 10/11/12. The sample size of the study was 200 and was conducted in Punjab state. The study found that nearly half (48.0%) of the children had regular discussion with their family members regarding their career. Family members were first most important person with whom the child discussed career plans (Mean score=1.38). Classmates were found to be second most frequently approached for career related discussion (mean score 0.85) followed closely by teachers (0.81) and friends (0.65). The findings also revealed that only one third children reported availability of any particular teacher assigned or available in their school with whom they or who discuss career related issues with children. The study suggests that children should be motivated and also informed about benefits of healthy discussions regarding carrier with their classmates, friends, teachers. All schools should have carrier counsellor at their school. Print, electronic and social media must be used by children in this regard.
