Abstract

Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Sanitary Napkins is a sort of sanitary napkin commercially available for a minimum cost of Rs. 1/Pad at Jan Aushadhi Kendras under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojna. To quantify the awareness regarding Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Sanitary Napkins, experiment was conducted among the 80 respondents who were the beneficiaries of this scheme. The study was conducted in the Muzaffarpur district of Bihar, where there is an established centre of Jan Aushadhi Kendras. Data were collected by personal interview schedule with the help of a structured interview schedule with observation method. The study revealed that 63.75 per cent of women respondents had a medium level of awareness, whereas 35 per cent women respondents had a low awareness level regarding Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Sanitary Napkin, and only 1.25 per cent of respondents were found to be at high awareness level. Similarly, 50 per cent of the respondents were aware about the scheme via ASHA health activists as their primary source of community mobilization followed by peer groups (22.5%), villagers (13.75%), advertisements (7.5%), and by themselves (6.25%). The findings of Regression analysis revealed that out of 10 variables, 3 variables were found positively significant with awareness regarding Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Sanitary Napkin. Variables such as profession were positively significant at 1% with a respective t-value 4.049 (p=.001), and variables like education and annual income were positively significant at 5% with t-values of 2.374 and 2.147, respectively. The Coefficient of determination, R2 was 0.762 which implies 76.20 per cent variance is explained by awareness model. Through community mobilization, Jan Aushadhi Suvidha Sanitary Napkins foster a supportive environment that addresses the menstrual needs of women and girls. They contribute to promoting health and well-being by ensuring that menstruation does not hinder the participation of women and girls in their daily activities, including education, work, and social interactions.
