The elderly citizens are an important part of the population of India who plays a pivotal role in carrying forward and disseminating the age-old wisdom and sagacity amidst the younger generation. However in the quest of doing so, the elderly are often seen to be inhibited by physical and emotional health problems arising due to growing age. Hence, the study was thus developed to explore the physical and emotional health problems of the urban elderly in Jorhat district of Assam. A total of 400 elderly citizens were selected for the present study from five wards of Jorhat Municipality Board under Jorhat sub-division. A multistage random sampling procedure was followed for the present study. From the study it was found that in physical health problems, most of the respondents had diabetes (41.00%), high blood pressure (40.50%) and knee & joint pain (30.00%). Under emotional problems the respondents mainly suffered from loneliness (54.54%), memory loss (24.74%) and constant worry (11.61%).
