Knowledge of rural women regarding selected government schemes

Abstract

The present study examines the knowledge of rural women regarding selected government schemes. The study is based on primary data collected by interview conducted on 120 rural women of two panchayat samities, Bhinder and Vallabhnagar of Udaipur four villages were selected randomly viz. Vikela and Kharsan from Bhinder while Kedariya and Kherada from Vallabhnagar panchayat samiti. For computing the collected data, Frequency, percentage and mean per cent scores were used for analysis. The study found that there is a significant gap in the knowledge of rural women regarding government schemes, despite the efforts of Government departments to spread awareness on the schemes. Eight schemes were taken for study viz. Pradhan Mantri Ujjawal Yojana (UY), Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (MUDRA), Pradhan Mantri Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY), Har Khet Ko Pani “Prime Minister Krishi Sinchaye Yojana” (PMKSY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (JJBY), Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (MPFBY), Pradhan Mantri Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), and Soil Health Card Scheme (SHC). Findings reveal that most of the respondents possessed average knowledge about the government schemes with an overall mean per cent score of 57.12. Distribution of the respondents into various knowledge categories reveals that 45.83 per cent of the respondents belonged to good knowledge category followed by 22.5 per cent under average knowledge and 31.66 per cent respondents belonged to poor category of knowledge.
