Abstract

Occupational stress in agriculture is a pressing issue with far-reaching implications for both farmers’ wellbeing and agricultural productivity. Among various problems in farming, the major problems that cause stress among farming community includes inadequate credit to meet financial obligations because farmers were having difficulty in accessing credit from financial institutions due to factors such as lack of collateral, poor credit history, or being located in remote rural areas where financial services are limited. The present study was conducted during 2020–2021 and carried out purposively in Mahbubnagar district of Telangana state with the objective of studying problems and suggestive measures to reduce the occupational stress among the farmers with a sample size of 170 respondents. The study followed Ex post facto research design. In this study, Garrett’s ranking technique was used to identify and rank the problems. Whereas, suggestions were measured using frequency and percentage. The results of the study revealed that the major challenges faced by them were; inadequate credit to meet financial obligations, heavy debt loads, low remunerative price for community got first, second and third rank respectively. These problems directly cause stress among the farmers. Whereas, major suggestions offered by them were; farmers need to be empowered with skills and modern scientific knowledge (80.58%), farmers need to go for subsidiary occupation so as to get income all through the year (72.35%), farmers are advised to opt for institutional credit as the interest rate is much less for the institutional credit (69.41%) got first, second and third rank respectively.
