Abstract

The study was carried out to examine the impact of the Saansad Adarsh Gramme Yojana (SAGY) on farmers’ adoption of several agricultural initiative. According to the need of farmers, 25 schemes were included in the study as a measure of adoption. The investigation was conducted in two blocks of Varanasi district in Uttar Pradesh. Three Model villages as treatment group and three non-model villages as control group was considered for the study. There was a substantial difference in the level of adoption between farmers in model and non-model villages. Among all the schemes taken into the study, crop-based schemes were more adopted followed by rural development schemes in model as well as non-model villages. Fish and poultry-based schemes were in least adopted by the farmers which indicates less interest in secondary agriculture. Nearly fifty percent farmers were in the category of medium level of adoption in model villages where as majority of the farmers (more than 70%) from non-model villages were in the low level of adoption.
