A study on effectiveness of pragmatic learning of university students in Uttarakhand

Abstract

The agricultural landscape in India has undergone a significant transformation from subsistence to commercial production, facilitated by advanced technology and knowledge. This shift has diversified the agricultural profession, involving not only farmers but also administrators, managers, and young entrepreneurs. The implementation of the WTO agreement has exposed Indian farmers to global competition, necessitating a focus not only on quantitative aspects but also on qualitative dimensions. Globalization and the commercialization of agriculture have led to the involvement of private organizations and industries in the sector. A notable change in agricultural education is the increasing enrolment of students with urban backgrounds in agricultural universities. Total 100 final year graduate students were selected from GBPUA&T, Pantnagar. The findings depicts that in orientation programme, majority of respondents reported that their skill was developed to explore the extension work and followed by Knowledge regarding farmers’ practices. In field visit components, majority of respondents reported that their awareness level was enhanced about KVK activities followed by knowledge about to start enterprise. In village attachment components majority of the students expressed that the RAWE was helpful to improve the knowledge in conducting group discussion followed by understanding complete life style of villagers and credit utilization and distribution patterns of farmers from SHGs. In Agro-industrial attachment component, majority of respondents reported that their skill was developed in farm budgeting followed by Knowledge of procedure to purchase the inputs. In Plant clinic component, majority of respondents reported that Plant Clinic component of RAWE was helpful in identifying beneficial and harmful insect followed by knowledge regarding pesticide and agro-chemical and use of biological methods of pest and disease management.
