Abstract

India has been recently focusing to harness its potential for economic growth, cultural preservation, and social transformation. Terra cotta art, a traditional craft with deep historical roots, offers a unique avenue for enhancing the livelihoods of rural women by providing opportunities for skill development, income generation, and community engagement. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, including quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews, to assess the impact of terra cotta art training programs on the economic and social well-being of participants. Data collection involved analyzing market acceptance, cost and selling prices of products, and the challenges faced by participants as well as training providers. Findings indicate that terra cotta art significantly contributes to the economic empowerment of rural women by creating viable income sources and enhancing their entrepreneurial skills. Artisans (respondents) reported improved financial stability, increased confidence, and greater recognition within their communities. Cultural heritage plays a pivotal role, as terra cotta art not only preserves traditional craftsmanship but also revitalizes local artistic practices. The research highlights that the specifically designed training programs effectively address skill gaps, foster creative expression, and promote cultural continuity. However, challenges such as inadequate raw materials, low wages, and poor quality of raw materials pose barriers to maximizing the benefits of terra cotta art initiatives. The study suggests targeted interventions to overcome these challenges and enhance the sustainability of terra cotta art programs.
