Abstract

The study was conducted to assess changes in technology use in rice cultivation of Burdwan, a high rice productive district and Jalpaiguri, a low rice productive district of West Bengal. In last ten years the change in technology use for rice cultivation was calculated by taking data at two point of time. The rice farmers of both the districts showed changes but at a significantly higher rate in Burdwan district with mean change 4.47 as compared to Jalpaiguri district with mean change at 1.32. Although changes in use of 5 technologies were found to be significantly in Jalpaiguri but in Burdwan district change in use of 12 technologies were significant. More over thresher use and use of sprayer were found significant in both the district but the change in use of thresher over time in between the districts was significantly different. The significant change in technology use in rice cultivation in the high rice productive district as compared to low rice productive district suggested a relationship between rice productivity and change in technology use.
