There is a vast difference between idealised concept of women and real life situation in which women find themselves. Inspite of Constitutional safeguards and legislative assurances for gender equality, and the government's best effort to develop underprivileged women through its various schemes, India had to adopt the concept of women empowerment in its Five Year Plan by adopting a National Policy to offer “Swashakti” to women. The present study is aimed at providing an insight into the impact of vocational skills development training on women empowerment. The Gender Resource Centers (GRCs) are envisaged as instruments to empower women, particularly those belonging to the underprivileged section of the society. The study concludes that GRCs should not merely limit themselves to imparting vocational skill development training, but should follow it up by facilitating in linkages development and ensure income generation for the participants attending the training.
