Abstract

The present study was conducted to work out the role of women in dairy based farming system of western Uttar Pradesh. Respondents were interviewed using of questionnaire developed for the study. Majority of women were dependent upon the occupation of animal husbandry and dairying while meager 10% were engaged in services. They almost performed all the duties of the occupation. However, due to poor social and economic conditions of farm women, their voice were not heard decision making, marketing of animals and other finance related activities of the entreprise. Their knowledge status regarding vaccination and veterinary services was very poor as most of them were not exposed to technical information and trainings. It was felt that extension agencies should come forward to strengthen women's role in the occupation.
