Abstract

The paper discusses policy options for malt barley cultivation through corporate led contract farming and the issues related to its productivity in Haryana. Non parametric statistical techniques were used to identify the reasons for farmers’ preference for contract farming and cultivation of two row malt barley. The paper also addresses the issues of contract farming related to perception of farmers with such arrangement. The results indicate that contract farming has a positive impact in popularization of malt barley and its productivity. The socio-economic factors of the farmers that influenced participation in contract farming were education, experience in agriculture, farm size, sources of information, extension services and seed availability with the contracting agency.
