Abstract

Twenty animals were classified in 2 groups each containing 10 animals. First group served as healthy control group and second group served as treated group. Pre-treatment and post- treatment milk sampling has been done on 0th day and 7th day. Treatment has been given on 3rd day after sample collection. Diagnostic interventions like bromothymol blue test, white side test, pH, cultural isolation and antibiotic sensitivity test etc. were performed on 160 milk samples. Highest prevalence of mastitis was found in animals that were of 3–4 years of age (60%). Highest prevalence was found in animals that had parturited 1–3 months back (80%). Highest prevalence was found in animals that were in 2nd-4th lactation (80%). Incidence of mastitis was 80%, 40% 40% and 60% in LF, LH, RF and RH respectively. pH of milk in treated group ranged from 6.0–8.5, 6.5–7.5, 6.5–7.5 and 6.5–8 in LF, RF, LH and RH respectively before treatment. BTB test showed equal incidence of infection in all quarters i.e. 60%. Whiteside test showed incidence of infection is 50%, 60%, 60% and 30% in LF, RF, LH and RH respectively. Most of the isolates identified as E. coli, Salmonella, Kliebsiella etc. Highest sensitivity was found against norfloxacin. 40% of isolates were sensitive to newer drug tried i.e. cefotaxime. Most of the isolates were sensitive against tobramycin, kanamycin, ofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline, penicillin G, lincomycin, cephaloridine, methicilline and cephalexin. Treatment was given on the basis of culture sensitivity test. Supportive treatment like meloxicam @ 0.5 mg/kg bwts.i.d for 3 days and injVitaminEcare se @ 10 ml/kg bwts.i.d for 5 days (as immunostimulant) in animals of treated group.
