Abstract

The Indian economy experienced major policy changes in early 1990s. The new economic reforms-popularly known as Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization (LPG) aimed at making the Indian economy a fastest growing and globally competitive economy.

LPG policy made tremendous impact on public sector as well as private sector organizations. After the year 1991, the scope and role of the public sector was sought to be reduced drastically. This is because the public sector organizations could not achieve the growth as expected. The quantitative growth of the public sector was not matched by qualitative performance. Now a days there is a cut throat competition in some of the sectors of the economy in respect of productivity, profitability, quality of work, job security, job satisfaction etc. The procedure and rules of India post are obsolescent. These rules have not changed as per technological changes. So it affects the service given to the members of public. There is lack of communication between higher administration and operative staff, which results in the lack of co-ordination or decrease in productivity. The opportunity for career development is not sufficient as compared to fast growing private sector. It is necessary to understand the needs and desires of employees to get maximum output. This paper enlightens on various aspects of job satisfaction of India Post employees which will be useful for various other service sector organizations as well.
