Abstract

‘Need is mother of any invention, and innovation follows it.’ This phrase is particularly applicable for the countries and people saddled with developmental issues. Here is an attempt to present a case study of low cost and reliable device which takes care of tedious routine of switching On and Off a pump set used in irrigation of farms. A product developed is based on very cost effective GSM platform as well as every design prudence has been used to minimize circuit complexity and subsequent improvements in reliability of device. Effective use of the device can considerably reduce the man-hours which would have been lost in commute to the farms for irrigation. This is a nice example of Reverse Innovation as it is based on the needs of underdeveloped/rural areas of a developing country like INDIA.
