It is observed that after the commencement of the new economic programme along with several sectoral reforms the pace of increase in the urban employment in the services is declined. However, it is compensated by increased employment growth in the manufacturing sector. In the four major metros, employment of males is eroded except Mumbai. Reason being is that it is financial capital of India and capital of the progressive state like Maharashtra hence more jobs are being offered to both male and female workers. Female jobs in Delhi and Chennai are declined except Kolkata and Mumbai. It also found that jobs in the sub-sectors of services sector such as financial, education, trade, hotel, communication and construction are on the rising scale hence these sectors should be protected by giving more stimuli and designing friendly policies for them in near future along with manufacturing sector. The present paper analyses the data on urban population and growth of urban employment after the introduction of new economic reforms.
