After the commencement of the new economic programme along with several sectoral reforms, the pace of increase in the urban employment in the services has declined. However, it is compensated by increased employment growth in the manufacturing sector. In the four major metros, employment of males is eroded except Mumbai. Female jobs in Delhi and Chennai are declined except in Kolkata and Mumbai. It is also found that jobs in the subsectors of services sector such as financial, education, trade, hotel, communication and construction are on the rising scale hence these sectors should be protected by giving more stimuli and designing friendly policies for them in near future along with manufacturing sector.
