E-Commerce Revolution: A Field Survey on a Success of E-Commerce Applications

Abstract

Electronic commerce is commonly known as e- commerce. It is a type of business where buying and selling of products or a service is conducted through electronic systems such as Internet and other computer networks. E-Commerce is also used in banking sectors like ATM, mobile banking, credit card, electronic bill payment. However, there is an increasing growth of online banking. For the past four and five years, the growth of e- commerce is 400%. The e- commerce market in India is growing very fast. E- Banking in developing countries is in its early stage of development. However, online banking in a raise. E- Banking in Malaysia emerged in 1981 with the introduction of ATM. On June 1, 2000, the Malaysia bank formally allowed local commercial banks to offer Internet banking services. On June 15, 2000, May Bank, one of the largest banks in Malaysia. As in most markets, credit and debit card payments dominate in India. 44% of online buyers are for payments through credit card, and 41% pays through debit card. Some people prefer to pay through cards only. Retailers in India have started to offer delivery through cards. 24% of people use online bank transfer, 28% respondents have indicated their intention to open an online account and 58% are lead users and followers. Now a day's ATM is the most popular e- commerce transaction. Most of the 8700 ATMs in India are located in the metros and Urban centres although there has been about 30 per cent growth in the number of ATMs developed in the country since 2008.

In the present paper the authors have tried to find the extent of popularity of ATMs among common people through a field survey. This information can be used for interpretation of success of e- commerce application.
