Abstract

This paper makes an assessment of the impact of new economic reforms on regional growth of agricultural sector in Indian economy by analysing cropping pattern for the post reform period 1991–2013. After the introduction of liberalisation, agriculture has been steadily changing. Its progress during the last twenty two years has been fairly encouraging and gradually gaining in strength of Maharashtra in the production of few cash crops. At the same time, the production of food grain and cereals has been declined in the recent past, which has put pressure on food inflation in Maharashtra since 2002.
