Indian banking industry has experienced sudden, pervasive & massive changes after economic reform in 1991. Unfortunately economic reform has not been able to produce results as expected. Indian banking sector has witnessed rise of technologically advanced new private sector banks. These banks are blessed with sound capital & professional promoters. Policy makers, researchers & media have expressed their confidence on the capability of new private sector banks. Old private sector banks did not get any respect from the professional world. This paper attempts to compare profitability of old & new private sector banks during 2001-02-2010-11. The result derived is astonishingly exciting & hopefully it would be able to satisfy the academic appetite of researchers.
