Correlating Emotional Intelligence Interpersonal Skills and Stress-An Empirical Study of College Students

Abstract

The concept of emotional quotient and applying it in day to day life is a relatively recent behavioral model came to prominence with Daniel Goleman's 1995 Book called “Emotional Intelligence”. In the area of human behaviour calculating emotional quotient and thereby using and managing emotions properly have become very much essential now a day. In present research an attempt is made to find out and to co relate emotions, interpersonal skills and stress of college students. The study will be useful to understand youths and to know their weaknesses together with self analysis in their journey towards career building. The researcher has selected a sample of final year students from B. Com, B.C.A and Bsc courses studying in the current academic year (2015–16). The study has proved the relationship between emotional intelligence and stress on one hand and with interpersonal skills on the other. Few recommendations and suggestions are made for managing emotions and thereby improving emotional intelligence. The students must be prepared to face the EQ based assessments conducted by the recruiting companies. It is through managing emotions and developing emotional intelligence that students can excel in their chosen career.
