Analyzing travel demand of work trips in Pune city

Abstract

Travel is an integral part of our daily life. Travel enables us to schedule and to reach out to different activities. Travel demand is a derived demand from the need or desire to participate in activities spread over space and time. In this study travel demand with reference to work trips in Pune is looked into. Work trips are essential and consistent on a daily basis. The mode of travel to work and time of travel has repercussions on the traffic chaos and congestion. The study looks into the work trips undertaken by 450 household in Pune city. Pune is the second largest city in Maharashtra after Mumbai.
