In 1991, financial sector reforms initiated in India altered the banking environment and transformed the traditional face of Public Sector Banks (PSBs) as mere financial intermediaries. In addition, with increasing globalization they also had to find their position with regard to international competition and international markets. This research paper, based on a doctoral dissertation, assesses the impact of the reform program on PSBs, from 1991 to 2008, on Human Resources Management Practices. These issues have been researched at branch-level, which often gets neglected in macroeconomic report cards.
