Retrospective analysis of ocular affections in dromedary camels

A retrospective study of ocular affections in camels performed during the years 2001–2010 was evaluated on the basis of the surgical outcome, complications and its treatment during study period January 2001 to December 2010. Two hundred Five camels were found affected and among the disease conditions corneal opacity showed highest incidence (32.68%) followed by eye lids laceration (20.97%), Eye injury (12.68%), lacrymal discharge of eye (11.22%), conjunctivitis (9.27%), xerophthalmia (3.41%), ruptured eyeball (2.93%), prolapse of third eyelid (2.44%), kerato-conjunctivitis (1.95%), keratitis (1.46%), descemetocele (0.49%), and subconjunctival haemorrhage (0.49%). Animals showed year wise incidence in decreasing manner. Males showed higher incidence than in females. Higher incidence was noted in winter season followed by summer and rainy season, respectively.
