Abstract

Butana plain, Gadarif State is a very important camel grazing area, but there is no available information on rangeland characteristics and plants nutritive value in the area. Consequently, a study was conducted to furnish this information using 1×1m iron quadrate and the standard methods. Plants samples were collected, stored and used for proximate analysis. Data was statistically analysed according to the completely randomised design and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test was used for means separation. Rangeland plants proximate analysis varied highly among sampling sites, areas and month. Ether extract was very low in all plants. Forbs generally had good CP (>6.5%) in all month.
