Women labour employment in goat rearing - a case study of revine area of Mathura district

Abstract

The labour use in goat rearing was 120, 215, 155, 145, 130 man-days respectively for land less, marginal, small, medium, & large farms. The overall extent for all groups was about 143 man-days. The maximum engagement in different operations of goat rearing was by marginal farmers followed by smali farmers and minimum being for landless families. Fem.3le workers put in the maximum man-days, which was followed by child workers. The overall figure during one year being 31 for male, 71 for female & 49 for children. The female labour is almost for whole year dnd puts maximum man-days per year. The maximum man-days were spent on grazing and minimum on grass cutting. The man-days spent on operations like grazing, feeding and cleaning were 84.87, 10.1 & 17.1 respectively. The utilization of female was more than male and children workers on all the farm's. The female labour utilization on different farms ranged between 60–96 man-days, with maximum on margmal farms and minimum on landless. Thus, women playa great role in goat occupations in the study area.
