Extraction of pigement from Parijataka, Padus and cosmos flowers and its utilization in dyeing of cotton and silk fabrics

Dyeing may also be called as finishing process as to bring the variety of colour in the fabrics. Textile materials are coloured, when dye molecules enter the amorphous region of the fibre polymer system. There is evidence that the art of dyeing has been known middle of 19th century. The dyes used were mostly of vegetable origin and many problems raised such as sources of supply were unreliable and standardization was non existant. Many of natural dyes did not have a strong attraction for the fibres. Most of the scientist worked on wool fibres dyed with natural dyes, till no work conducted on cotton and silk fibrics. Therefore, present study carried out on extraction of pigment from selected flowers and its utilization in dyeing of cotton and silk fabrics with the objectives as time for extraction of pigment, standaridization of quantity of dymaterial and time for dyeing of fabrics.
