Abstract

Time pressures of 150 working women of Punjab Agricultural University, ludhiana were examined by finding their time consuming pattern and by examining the help received by them from other family members. The results revealed that from different household activities, ‘cooking’ was the main activity which required maximum time followed by ‘caring of children’ and ‘dishwashing’ by both teaching and non-teaching staff. Majority of teaching staff had paid help for almost all the household activities whereas non-teaching had the paid help mostly for cleaning of house and dishwashing. In certain activities like caring of children, cooking, dishwashing and washing clothes, respondents got help from their in-laws. A little or no help was extended by husband or children in different household chores of dishwashing, cleaning or cooking. Main sources of recreation reported by majority of respondents were ‘outings’ and attending 'social gatherings’ followed by ‘attending kitty parties’ and ‘viewing television’.
