Subclinical mastitis: incidence and factors effecting in Murrah buffaloes

The study was conducted to find out the incidence of sub clinical mastitis (SCM) in Murrah buffaloes and factors effecting it. All quarter samples oI 7l buffaloes were subjected to Modified California Mastitis Test, Somatic cell counts and Chloride test for screening of SCM. Based on the results of these tests, 23 buffaloes (18.59% Quarter wise) were found to be affected by SCM. Factors like stage of lactation (P<0.01) and milking systems (P<0.05) had significant ellect on incidence of SCM where as effect of milk yield and parity was non significant. Ttrc incidence was higher in older cows as well as those in early stages of lactation (41.67%). Though any considerable difference was not observed for the prerralence of SCM in high (33.33%), medium (32%), and low (33.33%) yielders. The per cent incidence of SCM was higher in anirnats milked by machine (53.85%) as compared to hand milking (24.49%).
