The path analysis of longevity of Sahiwal cattle was carried out to find out the direct and indirect contribution of age at first calving and productive herd life i.e. the period from age at first calving to date of last milk production in the herd. The data were collected based on records of 471 animals maintained at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) herd for a period of 23 years (1980–2002). The result showed that maximum of the variation of longevity was due to effect of productive herd life (94.63%). A very little amount of variation (2.5%) was explained by variability in age at first calving in this case. The model explained total variation in longevity.
