Documentation of muzzle measurements in various body weight groups of karan fries cattle

Abstract

The present study was conducted on the Karan Fries cows of different categories maintained at Cattle Yard, National Dairy Research Institute, Kamal, Haryana, to docwnent the age of Friesian crosses by linear muzzle measurement technique. Various muzzle measurements (basal length (BL), upper length (UL), central length (CL), muzzle span (MS), muzzle length (ML) and muzzle area (MA)] were taken to document the body weight. In different categories of body weight groups (25–74 to 475–524 kg), BL, UL, CL, MS, ML and MA varied from 45.56–84.33 mm, 53.88 103.33 mm, 45.95–92.07 mm, 27.49–54.00 mm, 42.56–86.67 mm and 1187.95-.4690.33 mm2, respectively. The various muzzle measurements in lactating KF cows were 78.78, 98.71, 90.66, 48.49,82.75 mm and 4020.86 mm2 for BL, UL, CL., MS, ML and MA, respectively.
