A significant correlation was found between the income level and the expenditure on milk and milk products. The per capita consumption of milk showed an increasing trend with the increase in income level. The consumption varying from 146 ml per day in group I (Monthly income upto Rs. 3000) to 468 ml in group IV (monthly income of Rs. 9001 and above) with an average per capita consumption rate of 299 ml per day. Practically all the families preferred to purchase buffalo milk than that of cow milk. The consumers (72.00 per cent) had a habit of utilizing the milk in the form of tea and few milk products instead of consuming as such. Therefore, majority of the families (73.00 per cent) preferred buffalo milk, though few families (10.50 per cent) inclined for cow milk.
