Majority of the families (73 per cent) preferred buffalo milk over cow milk though few families preferring both the milks. The preference of the people for buffalo milk may be on account of its higher fat content and good taste. Most of the families consumed milk in the form of tea or coffee rather than as such. The consumers (72.00 per cent) had a habit of utilizing the milk in the form of tea and few milk products instead of consuming as such. The consumption of milk and milk products was significantly related with the income level of family. The percent expenditure on milk and milk products was more in lower income groups as compared to higher income groups. With regards to the consumption of different milk products, it was observed that more number of families consumed dahi followed by ghee and occasionally preferred to consume shrikhand, basundi and ice-cream. These products are purchased from market rather than preparing at home. Educational level and family size did not establish significant association with consumption of milk.
