A study was carried out in 2007 on 80 farmers in five randomly selected villages of Rudrapur Block of US Nagar District of Uttarakhand to study the pattern of adoption of vaccination and deworming by dairy farmers of the region and factors influencing the pattern of adoption. The findings revealed that adoption rates have been high for vaccination over the years compared to deworming. Disadoption of the two technologies-in comparison to adoption - is of a more recent phenomenon as most of disadoption took place less than five years prior to the study. Findings regarding reasons for disadoption and non-adoption of technologies envisaged the following policy implications: To ensure farmers’ adoption of technologies like vaccination and deworming, it is necessary to increase their awareness about the benefits of these technologies and making sure that these technologies are available frequently and timely. Findings regarding factors influencing early adoption of technologies revealed that more than human endowments, institutional endowments-viz. credit and information access, membership of group and distance to market-available to farmers favourably affect adoption of the two technologies considered in the study.
