Perceived information needs of dairy farmers in accessing ICT-enabled village information centres*

The study was carried out to assess the perceived information needs of dairy farmers in accessing Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) - enabled Village Information Centre (VIC). By following ex-post-facto research design, 180 dairy farmers were selected randomly from three major types of ICT-Village Information Centre initiatives in Tamil Nadu. Majority of the respondents perceived information on feeding, breeding, management and health of animals, weather forecasting and e-governance accessed from VICs as "most appropriate" to their needs but the content on fodder production and agricultural aspects were considered as "appropriate to less appropriate". Hence, the appropriate agriculture information should be obtained from the respective agricultural university and updated in VICs to improve their effectiveness in satisfying the ICT enabled information needs.
