The present study was undertaken in Varanasi districts of Uttar Pradesh to study resource use efficiency in milk production on sample households.Varanasi district consisted of eight blocks. Two blocks were selected at random. Two villages from each block were randomly selected. A sample of 100 milk producing households comprising of 15 landless, 33 marginal, 22 small, 17 medium and 13 large were selected randomly from these four villages. The average quantity of green fodder, dry fodder and concentrate fed to the milking buffaloes of all categories were found to be 17.85 Kg, 8.39 Kg. and 3.22 Kg. per day per animal respectively. Linear and Cobb-Douglas milk production functions were tried to study resource use efficiency. The linear was found best fit keeping in view sign, significance of regression co-efficient and value of R2. The regression coefficient of green fodder, dry fodder and concentrate were found significant. It was observed that green fodder, dry fodder and concentrate were under utilized indicating that feeding of more quantity of green fodder, dry fodder and concentrate will further increase the productivity of milch buffaloes in the study area.
