Abstract

The extent of food and nutritional adequacy among women in the BPL (Below Poverty Line) families of Central Kerala was assessed. The intake of most of the food groups and the intake of macro and micronutrients was found to be lower than the recommended dietary allowances suggested by ICMR. The nutritional status of women on the basis of Body Mass Index (BMI) indicated malnutrition among 60 per cent of women and anaemia among 53 per cent.
