The aim was to evaluate the effect of cola, orange juice, and wine on the surface micro-hardness of nano-composites.
One hundred eighty composite circular discs were prepared with Filtek™ Z350 XT (3 M) and Ceram X (Dentsply). The groups were as follows Group I-Filtek Z350 XT (90 discs) and Group II-Ceram X (90 discs). The specimens were immersed in a cola drink, orange juice, and wine for different time durations as follows; (a) 1 day, (b) 7 days, (c) 14 days; (n = 10). Surface micro-hardness was evaluated on the circular discs using a micro-hardness tester.
There is a significant decrease in the mean values of Vicker's hardness number due to cola, orange juice and wine from 1 to 7 days, and 14 days in Group I-Filtek Z350 XT and Group II-Ceram X (i.e., P < 0.05).
Filtek Z350 XT showed greater reduction in micro-hardness compared to Ceram X when immersed in wine than cola and orange juice.
