To assess two important facets of patient education material using Patient Education Materials Assessment Tool (PEMAT) at FDS, RUAS.
An observational study conducted in all the departments of Faculty of Dental Sciences from the month of December 2015 to January 2016. The study sample is the Patient education material in the printed form including posters, brochures, pamphlets present in all the departments of the institute. The observers were trained on how to use PEMAT. This was done with the help of PEMAT guide. At the beginning of the study, 1 printed education material was considered as calibration subject for the calibration session. The mean Intra Class Correlation value was 0.85 which shows high agreement between the examiners.
The understandability of patient education materials found averaged at 71.5%, with a range of scores between 31–81%, whereas the overall actionability average was 70%, with scores ranging from 28–84%. Conclusion: The present study showed, the printed oral health education materials are good in content, choice of words and style.
