Abstract

Antarctica is a unique continent and despite its cold, harsh environment, microorganisms have adopted this environment for their survival, functionality and growth. A variety of these microorganisms have colonized in the Schirmacher oasis and around, where even during the winter season, coreless atmospheric temperature caused by the mixing of air within the inversion air-masses flowing as katabatic winds and the induction of warm oceanic air, result in the largest surface air temperature variations. These aspects of the coreless temperature variations have been investigated from the meteorological observations taken at the Novolazarevskaya, Russian stations for the years 2011–2012. It is concluded that a well defined program simultaneously involving meteorological observations and survival of microorganism be inducted to throw a better light on such aspects.
