The objective of this study was to compare short and long term angiographic outcomes of those patients who underwent balloon angioplasty with patients who also received intra-coronary stents. I t was found that among the total study population of 300 patients, the prevalence rate of various risk factors examined and the need of subsequent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were significantly higher in patients undergoing balloon angioplasty. This suggests that the benefit of stenting is a result of its preventive effect on acute or subacute vessel disclosure.
