Effect of indapamide on renal lipid profile in albino rats

Indapamide is a thiazide related sulfonamide antihypertensive diuretic drug. Indapamide produces volume contraction by inhibition of Na⁺ reabsorption in co-transporter blocked by indapamide. Each dose of indapamide was given to experimental groups of rats at 2.5 mg/kg body weight daily for 7, 14 and 21 days, respectively. Total lipid, total cholesterol (TCH), high density lipoprotein(HDL), low density lipoprotein(LDL), triglyceride (TG) and very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) were analysed in the kidney.The results showed is increase in total lipid, total cholesterol (CHO), HDL and LDL, and significant decrease in the triglyceride and VLDL levels in the kidney. The statistically significant data indicated the adverse side effects of indapamide drug on the lipid metabolism and change in the lipid and lipoprotein metabolism.
