The impact of rogor and endosulfan on the some biochemical profiles of locally available two specific group of air breathing fish i.e. Heteropneustes fossilis and Clarias batrachus have been studied. The LC50 (96 hrs) of rogor and endosulfan for fish have been calculated as 4.5 ml/L and 1 ml/L respectively. The selected sublethal concentration in the experimental protocol were 0.5 ml/L and 2 ml/L for rogor and 0.008 ml/L and 0.05 ml/L for endosulfan. Healthy fishes were acclimatized for 15 days and then exposed to the different concentrations of toxicants for 3 consecutive weeks and observations were made after one week interval. The parameter selected were total protein, (albumin/globulin), total carbohydrate (glucose) and triglycerides. All these parameters show a general trend of decrease on exposure. The decrease was more significant in the higher concentration of toxicants. Comparatively endosulfan is more toxic to the fish than the rogor. At the lower sublethal doses of rogor protein content was decreased by 20% while at its higher sublethal dose the decrease were almost 30% in both the groups of fishes. Endosulfan exposure showed a marked decrease in total protein content by nearly 55% in both these fishes. Decrease in glucose level was more pronounced in Clarias batrachus than H. fossilis. Triglycerides content was minimum at 3rd week exposure of endosulfan and rogor at both its concentrations. Both rogor and endosulfan exposure greatly hampers the nutritional status of these commercially important groups of fishes.
