Factor analysis is applied to data set of water quality obtained from Gaula River. An attempt has been made to detect the important sources of input waters to this river system. It shows the usefulness of factor analysis for evaluation of pollution sources and interpretation of large complex water quality data set for effective management of water resources. Further, factor analysis is able to identify the significant sources of water quality inputs to the cross section of this river. Animal waste and wastewater discharges are probably the important sources of pollution to Gaula River.
