Abstract

An attempt has been made in present investigation to determine the toxicological effects of hexavalent chromium on some biochemical parameters in freshwater fish, Channa punctatus. Fish were exposed to sublethal concentration of hexavalent chromium (2.5 mg/L and 5 mg/L). After 60 days exposure their biochemical profiles such as total protein, total lipid, cholesterol and triglycerides were observed. Appreciable decline in the constituents such as total protein, total lipid and triglycerides were observed, however, the cholesterol content increased significantly. This study reflects the extent of the toxic effect of hexavalent chromium and the metal induced cumulative deleterious effects at various biochemical levels in Channa punctatus.
