Physico-chemical characteristics of thermal water and soil of Tarabalo and Attri geothermal province, Orissa, India

Abstract

Thermal water oozing out from five different spots of Tarabalo and one spot of Attri were collected and their physical characteristics (such as temperature, colour, odour, discharge) and chemical parameters (such as pH, TDS, DO and Na, K, Mg, Cl, Ca, SO4−−, CO3−−, and HCO3−−) were estimated in the present study. In addition, the physical properties such as pH, moisture percentage, bulk density, specific gravity and porosity percentage along with nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, organic carbon content of the soil in Tarabalo hot spring area and Nilakantha Prasad Village (2 km. away of Tarabalo) were analyzed for a comparative study. Besides, biochemical parameters such as chlorophyll content and peroxidase activity of Eichhornia (found in good numbers in the investigated area, Tarabalo and two km. away from Tarabalo i.e. Nilakantha Prasad Village) were also worked out for a relative study.
