The effect of testosterone (T) and estradiol-17β (E2) at different dosage (1, 2 and 4 mg/kg bw) on alternate days for 15 days, on different phospholipids-phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylserine (PS), phosphatidylinositol (PI) and phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) in liver, plasma and testis were studied during non-breeding phase of annual reproductive cycle of the freshwater catfish, Heteropneustes fossilis (Bloch). The levels of different phospholipids during post-spawning phase were stimulated at higher dosage of T and E2 only when compared with their respective control. The levels of PC, PS, PI and PE were promoted high in response to T and E2 at all tested dosage during resting phase. Our findings suggest that E2 has more pronounced effects than T in regulation of different phospholipids during non-breeding phases of the annual reproductive cycle.
