It is quite clear from the surveys made earlier in endemic areas as well as literature that fluorosis (chronic disease caused by excess consumption of fluoride) is an irreversible disease and there is no specific cure for this disease. Only preventive measures which can remove fluoride from water may give relief from fluoride menace. Recently certain reports have been published that vitamin A, C, D, E and calcium have curative role in fluoride exposed cases to some extent. Keeping this fact in view, present study has been undertaken. In this study, fishes were divided in four groups - one control and three experimental groups (fluoride exposure). After 90 days fluoride exposure was stopped, fishes of control group and one experimental group were sacrificed and tissues were collected. Remaining two experimental groups were further maintained for experiment- one as withdrawl group and other as ascorbic acid treatment group for one month. At the end of experiment fishes of both groups were sacrificed and samples were collected for observations which suggested that ascorbic acid treatment to chronically exposed fishes helped in overcoming the adverse effects and reversal towards normal structure and function of vital organs.
