Oxidative stress and free radicals have been implicated in impaired wound healing. Ampucare is a polyherbal formulation that possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and wound healing properties. To determine the antioxidant property of ampucare and wound healing parameters in mice. The present study was undertaken to assess the efficacy of ampucare and betadiene in wound healing process as well as determine the antioxidant enzymes activities along with MDA level and biochemical parameters in mice. Mice were divided into three groups of twelve mice each. Control group (without treatment) and experimental group (treated with ampucare and betadine) were subjected to biochemical and enzymatic parameter in granulation tissue of mice on 7th and 14th days treatment. Our results showed that both drug treated groups significantly increased the levels of hydroxyproline, hexosamines, total protein, antioxidant enzymes (SOD, Catalase) along with a significant decreases in MDA level in granulation tissue when compared with control group after 7 and 14 days treatment. These levels were significantly increased along with a decrease in the MDA level in granulation tissue of ampucare treated group in comparison to betadiene treated group after 7 and 14 days treatment. The results suggest that ampucare has antioxidant and wound healing properties, which may be responsible for faster wound healing in granulation tissue than betadiene.
