Abstract

The present article reviewed the status of pro-inflammatory cytokines in different occupational exposures. The levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines used as inflammatory markers by analyzing in serum, plasma, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL), nasal lavage fluid (NAL) and induced sputum (IS). Most of the occupational exposures have reported higher levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in exposed group as compared to non-exposed group. Highest levels of detectability of proinflammatory cytokines were found in serum as compared to bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL), nasal lavage fluid (NAL) and induced sputum (IS). The present article recommends that the levels of serum proinflammatory cytokines could be used as inflammatory markers for preventive measure in occupational exposure.
